19th Century Chinoiserie planter

A lovely French jardiniere in the Chinoiserie manner. A hand-painted wooden exterior and fitted with a tin lined removable insert. Depicting scenes of exotic birds sitting in foliage, typical of the European fascination with the East in the 19th Century. This would make a wonderful planter for interior use, for example planted with orchids. It could also be used as a unique wine cooler or table centrepiece.

Found in France and signed and dating to c.1880
